Digital Learning in Mathematics

One of my goals is to transition my classroom from a traditional teachers centered classroom to a 21st century student orientated classroom. The first step in my plan to transition to a 21st classroom is to reduce paperwork by allowing students to engage in more online and digital learning projects. To help me reach this goal, I have created a donors choose project to purchase five laptop computers and one tablet. With this technology I hope to engage students more meaningfully and create learning experiences that will last a lifetime.

Please use the following link to view and donate to my "Digital Learning in Mathematics" project. Also, please share this link with as many people as possible.

Factoring Sum and Difference of Cubes

Today the students began exploring how to factor sum and difference of cubes. This is a relatively simple factoring pattern but it is a new concept to them. Student begin to learn Sum and Difference of Cubes in the 11th grade building off content knowledge they learned in the 9th and 10th grades regarding difference of squares. To further explore this factoring pattern, click on the link below.

The first topic that will be covered in 1st and 2nd block Advanced Algebra will be the Basics of Polynomials and Adding/Subtracting Polynomials. Khan Academy has a decent video series covering the topic. If students would like to ace their first quiz, it would probably be helpful to watch the series and practice the examples that are given.

Welcome to Class!

Welcome to the Advanced Algebra Support Blog. I am very excited about working with each one of my students during the upcoming semester. I strive to provide my students with the support they need to be successful and confident in mathematics. I began using blogs two years ago in an effort to provide after school assistance to my students.

I soon found out that parents love the blog even more than my students. So many parents get frustrated with math because they cannot help there children with their homework. The blog has turned out to be a great way to not only support my students, but their parents as well.
Feel free to email me with any questions or concerns at aharwood@ware.k12.ga.us. Have a great year!
